What Should I Surrender?

“What should I surrender?” is the million dollar question.

Some of you already know what you are surrendering while others of you are uncertain. For the latter group, no problem; I guarantee you that by the time you complete the five Pre-Fast Preparation chapters, you will know what you are giving up.

Also, for you who think you know what you are surrendering, don’t be surprised if that changes by week’s end. In a previous fast, one woman was certain that she would give up meats. However, after completing the Pre-Fast section she heard God clearly say, Give up an hour of your “free time” each day to devote to Me in prayer. Although challenging, she did just that and was blessed.

As you contemplate what you will surrender, here’s a list of things that others have given up:

  • Television
  • Food (fasting to a certain period or gave up certain food items)
  • Internet
  • Fear
  • Free time
  • Envy
  • Selfishness

And the list goes on.

On another note, big shout out to the organizations and churches that have joined Surrender 2012! One such group is Lady of Virtue (Buffalo, N.Y.) lead by Latricia Chisholm. Another is the Latter Rain Catheral Singles Ministy lead by Sonya Peebles (Buffalo, NY). Lastly, I would like to welcome The Queen Esther Ministry of First Baptist Church of Glenarden (Maryland) lead by Carolyn Tatem, author of Marriage from A to Z. QE is giving up what I like to call the Big 3: Meats, Sweets, and TV. In an effort to support them, I am going vegan (which is the equivalent of doing the Daniel Fast). No dairy…challenging!

Don’t forget about the fasting support that is provided throughout your 40 days:

If you want to participate in this corporate fast starting January 2, 2012, you still have to time. I’m going to be doing this and I’m looking forward to great results during and when I’m done! Looking for God to do some awesome things :).

I will be surrending my will to God and fasting from my need to control. So this will indeed be challenging for me since I like to plan and do not like the unknown. I like to know what’s going on and God has done an awesome job of keeping me in the dark on a number of things this past year as well as throwing a few monkey wrenches in ‘my plan’, which made me very uncomfortable. Lol! So I hope you will join Dr. Celeste and the rest of us who will be surrending something dear to our heart for 40 days.

    • Thanks for spreading the word Detra! That control thing…what’s so appealing about control? 🙂 I am joking; it is also my issue. But God has decided to put me on a need-to-know-basis. So these days I truly walk by faith and not by sight. I, too, am looking forward to Jan. 2!

  5. Hello everyone and Happy Re-NEW Year! I am looking forward to this 40-day journey and since I have several options on what to surrender – I have yet to pick one! I will let you know when I do! For now, it’s just doing the “homework”, letting go and letting God lead me to such a decision. I look forward to chatting with all of you!

    • Happy New Year Dori! We started Day 1 today. I am surrendering guilt. I will say more about that is today’s blog. I know you will pick the right one. All God is asking is that you surrender something and He will do the rest. All the best to you during your time of surrender!

  6. My apologies … I am going to be behind since I have yet to purchase the book (just read that I needed it)! Any way to get the first 2 Chapters?!
