Cycle 3 of Surrender 2012 has Begun!

Welcome to Day 1 of the 40-Day Surrender Fast! I am ecstatic that you have decided to completely commit the next 40 days to God; you are in for a treat. Like today’s post reminded us: Expect the Unexpected.

So who’s represented? There’s New York, New Jersey, Florida, Maryland, Virginia, The District, Alabama, California, Georgia, Missouri, Kentucky, Texas, Pennsylvania, Arkansas, Wisconsin, Louisiana, Tennessee, and even Afghanistan!

Shout out to First Baptist Church of Glenarden, the Latter Rain Cathedral, and Alexander Memorial Baptist Church.

Okay, now that we have that out of the way, let’s get to the most important business–what the Surrender Fast is all about–growing in our relationship with God.

The theme this cycle is “Who’s Building Your House?” Ironically, I am surrendering CONTROL. Apparently, even after 8 Surrender Fasts, I am still building my own house (or at least some of the rooms). But I declare that after two years of surrendering, I am ready to fully release the reigns. Lord I surrender all!

What about you?

Psalm 127:1 reminds us, “Except the LORD build the house, they labour in vain that build it.”

King Solomon wrote that. Unfortunately, he learned the hard way that his wealth and wisdom were useless without God. And today he’s instructing us that unless God is building your house it’s all in vain.

Some of you are in need of a miracle–in your marriage, finances, employment status, career, spiritual life, and ministry. But are you allowing God to build your house? In other words, is He the foundation, is He your center? Or are you “fixing” your problem and leaving Him to clean up the mess.

Whatever the case, don’t fret. Help is on the way. God is simply asking you to step away and let Him have full control. In the next 40 days, if you are humbly submitted to Him, His plan and His will, He will do the seemingly impossible. Don’t just my take my word for it, listen to our savior. “Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible” (Matthew 19:26).

God is HERE. He is waiting. Submit to His plan and let Him build your house. I can’t wait to see what your house will look like in just 39 more days!

With God all things are possible,
Dr. Celeste

I am very excited to be a part of cycle 3. Cycle 2 was life changing for me and I’m looking forward to the changes yet to come.

    • Hi Marlene. Thanks for the response and welcome back :). I am also excited about Cycle 3. God is up to something…like He said, “Expect the Unexpected.” I’m ready!

  2. Niki

Milwaukee, WI and I am excited to be doing my 3rd cycle this year, God has truly changed who I am in 2012!

    • Wow, Niki! 3 cycles? You are pressed to be one with God. I praise Him for your persistence. It reminds me of the women with the issue of blood. She knew if she could touch the hem of his garment, she would be made whole. He is making you whole and well this year. What will you look like at the end of 2012? 🙂 Be blessed my sister!

  3. Ginger

    Hi Celeste,

I am excited about the fast. Steve and I are joining you this cycle. I expect mighty things from God as I surrender to his will.

    • Hi Ginger,

You AND Steve are doing the fast?! Wonderful! Yes, expect great things. There is no better way to go into a marriage than to make God your foundation. I hope other engaged couples follow your lead.

  4. Chozyn2Worship

    Hi!
I’m from Louisiana and I am excited, this is my first cycle. I knew I was doing the right thing when I seen “Expect the Unexpected” My motto for this year and what I share with everyone is “Move Forward and Expect the Great” Looking forward to this and I will share with my friends. Thanks and God Bless.

  5. Latisha

Hi, my name is Latisha I am checking in from Memphis, TN. I’m excited about participating in the fast and the way God is going to move in my life.

    • Hello Latisha from Memphis! I have been to your city many times, great food :). Thank you for being part of this experience. It wouldn’t be the same without you. I praise God for your obedience.

  6. I must admit I didn’t see the results I had hope for in Cycle 2 and then I tried to go through Cycle 1 early part of the summer but I got 20 plus day in and then stop. So here I am again about to start another Cycle 3 and I’m hoping I will be discipline enough to complete the next 40 days. I wasn’t sure what I wanted to surrender but a co-worker had brought to my attention “I shouldn’t take things to personal” especially on the job and regardless of the situation or circumstance God is in control. Once she said those words it was like a light bulb went off and then I said that’s it. I need to surrender my feelings and trust God will take care of me no matter how big I think my problems are. On Sunday morning Pastor Grainger Browning preached on the power of God and how God is in Control of everything. WOW! Again I felt like God was sending me a message. I believe I do have faith as small as a mustard seed but some where along the way I tend to forget how big my God is. So I say Yes I am ready to move forward this cycle 3. I am ready to seize the moment and grow into my destiny! I also like to give thanks to God for surrounding me around Godly people such as my co-worker Latisha when my spirit gets low she reminds me to trust God.

Finally I like to uplift my family, my sister and her family, my nephews and my mom as they too start their journey in cycle 3.

The Best is Yet To Come!

    • What great comment; I am excited for you. I am also amazed at your diligence. Although you didn’t get the result you wanted you are not giving up. You are continuing to surrender and this time your feelings. May God bless you, Latisha and your family during these 40 days of surrender!

  7. I started the Surrender Fast as a precursor to my first Missionary trip this past July 2012 (to Ukraine) with the FBCGlenarden. It was such a success. This time around though, I am surrendering my complete will to that of God’s will for my life. It is hard though, because I’m such a controller and ruler (of my own destiny! I’ve learned to let go of others!). So far, I’m screwing everything up – my marriage (my husband just told me he didn’t want to go on anymore); my home (I’m in foreclosure and my home just went on the market and expected to be sold anyday now); my finances (I’ve never been this broke before, although all of my bills are paid). I SURRENDER! I have nowhere to go but UP, so yes, I’m expecting a miracle!

    • P.S. I forgot the most important part – my health! This Thursday, I’ll undergo a pain management procedure for my back.

    • And a miracle you shall receive if you just let God build the house! He’s always in the wings waiting for us to release our plan and the Word says if we draw nigh to Him He’ll draw nigh to us. I praise God for you candor and honesty. Keep on surrendering; great things are in store.

  8. Day one was so hard but I pulled through and I am so ready now for the challenge just reading comments from others strengthens me knowing I am not alone

    • Praise God you made through Day 1! His mercies are new every morning so receive His power to get through today. I agree the comments are so encouraging. Be blessed!

  9. Tamika

Hello Celeste, This is my first cycle and I am so glad to be apart of this process. I wonder what is in store, only time will tell.

  10. Robin

Good Morning and Praise God for another day. As the season is about to turn into fall it’s getting harder for me to get up in the morning. I got up today and said my prayers, got on the conference call this morning got dress all in time to be able to catch the bus this morning that was my intention however all ready to go and I couldn’t find me fare-card … I’m searching all over and don’t understand why my fare-card isn’t where it should be? Well now it’s to late to catch the bus so I have to drive to the metro after I finally found my card on the kitchen table under a magazine. I first thought why is this happening perhaps God is holding me back from something and then I realized that’s not it God is telling me it’s time I get rid of all this clutter in my purse, clutter on my dresser just too much clutter. So that’s something else I need to surrender during these 40 days.

    • Hi Robin, what I love about your revelation is that you didn’t just dismiss it with a simple answer (“God was just delaying me from harm) but dug down deep to see if there was perhaps another reason for the delay. Wow! Physical clutter can also manifest when we are mentally and spiritually cluttered. Not saying that is the case with you, just stating a fact. Be blessed and I hope your commute home is a peaceful one :).

  11. Cynthia

Hi Celeste. I am excited. This is my first cycle with you. I am believing God for a transformation in my life. I can’t wait to see what God is going to do. I too am trying to let go of control. I need God to build my house (life).

    • Welcome Cynthia! I am excited that you are embracing the process of surrender by releasing control. May God bless your efforts. Keep us posted on how you are doing.

  12. Good Evening,

Thank you and yes I made it home peacefully. I can honestly say the physical clutter is affecting me mentally and spiritually. As Bishop T.D. Jake would say God doesn’t work in clutter. So as I work on clearing out the clutter during this cycle as well as wearing my feelings on my sleeves I pray that my ears will be clear to hear God’s words with understanding and my eyes will be open with a new and brighter vision so that I may move forward towards God’s destiny for my life.

  13. Tanesha

Greetings Dr. Owens, I had to post to this blog and thank you again for this awesome opportunity to allow God to CONTROL and not me 🙂 This is my first 40 day surrender fast and I’m truly looking for God to do a new thing in me and I surrender. I’ve decided to give up control for this fast and seek God’s face regarding my marriage and the character flaws in me. I’m sick and tired of being sick and tired and I SURRENDER.

Oh and I must add that I’ve seen God working already and despite my fear given operating out of my comfort zone, I’m PRESSING and in my PRESSING I see transformation happening in me 🙂

Victory is on the way and I claim it! Have a wonderful evening!

    • Tanesha welcome to Surrender 2012! You bring up a great point. When we surrender we give God permission to move in our situation(s) and He starts to do so right away! You are a witness and so am I. Keep on surrendering, victory is on the way!!!

  14. Robin

    Good Evening,

I would like to give thanks to First Lady Malinda for the prayer this morning and reminding me that this is the year of God’s Favor. Here we are in the 9th month of the year and I often asked myself where did I go wrong or what did I do to get off track from my blessings. My sister told me that sometimes we can be so close to our blessings and without realizing it for example being prideful, mad, rude or whatever can cause us to lose our blessings and I wonder if that’s what happen to me? This summer I had such a strong conviction towards a certain strongholds in my life that I stepped outside the box and began circling my jericho walk. I finally thought justice would prevail and when I didn’t get the results I had hope for I was totally crushed. I felt so hopeless but the scripture read in church Lamentations 3:21 “And Yet this I call to mind and therefore I have hope” I was like okay although I feel hopeless I shouldn’t give up on God because of his great love and compassion for us. Even though I didn’t get what I had hoped for it’s not to late … the year is not over yet … God is always on time. Sometimes I do forget and I thank you for reminding me again that God is Faithful

    • Robin, let the church say “amen” for what His plans are. God has spoken, let the church say amen. That’s what you are doing because you know you have the victory and the battle is already won!

I am passing your message on to First Lady Malinda. Be blessed.

  15. Robin

    Good Evening,

Well I made it through day and as I read question today I wasn’t sure what to write but then I read day 4 and the question 2 ask what storms have begun since I’ve started this fast well morning started at 5:30 a.m. with my mom waking me up saying her blood pressure was high and that she was having chest pain so I got up shower and we made our way to the emergency room. So as I sat in the waiting room I thanked God for another day and the blood of Jesus. I pleaed the blood of Jesus over my mom’s life, her health, her heart and her blood pressue. The hospital decided to keep her overnight for observations and to make sure she wasn’t having a heart attack. So as I hold on to believing that everything will be okay– I know the power of prayer works in numbers so I uplift my mom’s health to all the members that’s involved in this cycle 3 and I asked that you say a little prayer for my mom. I thank you all in advance as I also lift up every member in this cycle 3 to God to meet everyone needs.

    Peace & Blessings!

  16. Hello Robin, I am praying for your mom even now. That God removes the heart pains and that her blood pressure returns to normal in the name of Jesus. Be encouraged; we are praying for you. I look forward to hearing the praise report!
