Pre-Fast Preparation – Question of the Day (Thursday, Dec. 27)

Why 40 Days?

“In the spiritual a stronghold is an incorrect pattern of thinking that influences how we live our lives. For that reason 40 appears to be the more accurate number for breaking a stronghold…In and of ourselves we are hopeless to change, but with God all things are possible. His healing virtue tears down the walls that have kept us confined and His grace propels us further than we ever thought we could go.” (The 40-Day Surrender Fast, p. 20)

QOTD: What behaviors or circumstances keep you bound and act as a barrier to the life God has for you?

For me avoidance can be a barrier; it has definitely been a stronghold for me in the past. God has given me an idea, but it’s BIG. I soooo want to avoid it, but I refuse to miss out on what God has for me. Therefore, I am going to do what God has assigned for me to do. I’ll keep you posted.

Please post your answer below.

With God all things are possible,
Dr. Celeste

Wow, I need for you to get out of my conversation I had with God. Lol! God and I last week just talked about how I became COMPLACENT in an area of my life and it’s time to move out of what became my comfort zone!

Thank you Dr. (Minister!) Celeste for obeying God in lauching Dr. Celeste Owens Ministries and the Surrender Fast!! I love all of the fresh bread that Pastor John Jenkins serves us whenever he ministers to us! The recent Christmas message had a Scripture reference (Psalm 116:12-14) that has the word “RENDER” in it. Embedded in the word SURRENDER is the word “RENDER”. Therefore, during this Pre-Fast period I am answering the question Pastor Jenkins posed to us through Psalm 116:12 and that is “What shall I RENDER to the Lord for ALL of His benefits toward me?” I owe God my life! Therefore, for the entire year of 2013 I will render my body free from sweets, white flour products, soda (even ginger ale or non-caffeine root beer!)!

    • Wow, Gayle!!! What shall I (sur)render? I praise God for your willingness to give Him your whole body and what you ingest. I am with you; we can keep one another encouraged!

Yessiree, let’s continue to encourage one another…like iron sharpens iron!

  3. Dr. Celeste you are wonderful!!! I know what ever God has for you to do you will do and pass with flying colors. My hold back /behavior that is slowing up my life is fear, fear or trying and failing, fear of trying and being a success. What will be required of me, what if I can’t do it. I am a ball of nerves right now, but I know that whatever God brings me to, He will bring me through. So many things, trust issues, avoidance…Ex. I have one test until I become a certified teacher, the last test I have to take is math…my biggest fear and my biggest hangup. I am asking God to help me get over this fear.

    • Tonia, this is a blast from the past. So good to hear from you and to know that you are on this journey with us!!!

Fear. One of the greatest hindrances to our success. God told Joshua to be bold and courageous many times before Joshua was appointed to lead Israel. He did so because He knew that fear would hold Joshua back. I am telling you, Tonia be BOLD AND COURAGEOUS! You’re afraid of a little math test? Please, God knows the answers to the test before you even read the question. We are reminded that if God be for us, who can be against us! You can do it!!! We wait in great anticipation to hear you testify that you are now a Certified Teacher! Love you Girl!

I know I’m a day late, but for me, people-pleasing is my barrier to God’s plan for me. I learned as a child to please people, to accommodate others, and push down my own feelings/desires/opinions. As an adult, that people-pleasing trait has kept me from listening to my own voice. I decided that for this fast, I am fasting from people-pleasing! I only want to please God!

    • Thank you for your comment Cherie. Read John 12:43. Great scripture to bring light to the whole “people-pleasing” mindset. Look out world, here comes (the real) Cherie!!! 🙂

  5. Dr. Celeste, you are a woman after my own heart. I too have some BIG things that God is pushing me to do but I use things like avoidance and perfection to keep me from doing I need to do. If it seems to big or if it isn’t the ‘way’ I want it, then I somehow sabotage myself from not doing it. I somewhat conquered my fear of perfection and it not being right when I did my 30 Days of Thanks in November. Not only did God blow my mind, but we he also blessed so many people because I was obedient. I would say if I could just get out of my own way and just let God have His way, I might be further along. But I’m not complaining because I believe everything happens in God time and I believe that I needed to experience that success to learn that it doesn’t have to be perfect to work or for you to get started. The other thing is that I am a HUGE thinker and I have to learn to get out of my own head. I think so much that analysis paralysis takes over and I think so much that I never get anything done. BUT enough is enough… I am pressing through and doing what I need to do to be where God wants me.

    • Yes, Detra, I understand completely. If I think too long, I will think myself out of God’s will! I praise God for where He has brought you from and where He is taking you. Push towards His bigger dream, believe that He can do it, and trust that His plan is best. Great things in 2013!

      • Yes that is exactly where I am. I am pushing as hard as I can. Embracing his dream in place of mine. Yes… great things in 2013!

  6. Deborah

Hello Dr. and All, I am new to this site and the 1st time doing this fast. I was invited by a very special young lady. Procrastination and over eating have overtaken my life to a fault. I need this stronghold broken, to move in the plans that God has for my life. I look forward to being renewed via this fasting and restoration period. Thank you, in advance, for your support!

    • Hello Deborah, welcome to the Surrender Fast and the beginning of your new season! We are here to encourage you on the journey. You may experience some tough days during the fast but don’t give up. Persist thru the challenges. Like the song says, “there is a blessing on the other side of thru.” I look forward to hearing about your transformation!
