Holy Discontent: What Can’t You Stand About this World?

Hello Surrender Fasters. You’ve made it to the last week of fasting for Cycle 5 and what a journey it has been!

Throughout this Cycle we have studied the theme Mastering the Art of Contentment. This week however, we’re switching gears to focus discontent; Holy Discontent to be exact.

Bill Hybels, pastor of Willow Creek Community Church, has coined the phrase Holy Discontent. Holy Discontent is from God. It’s the one thing about this world you can’t stand. It might be poverty, addictions, abuse, or some other ill. Whatever the case when you see it, touch it, or get near it you can’t stand it; in fact, everything in your screams that you need to take action.

What is that for you? What is the thing you can’t stand about the world?

Our holy discontentment can come from a heartbreaking personal experience, or some injustice in the world. And it comes when you open your eyes to something bigger than yourself.

Today God is asking you to get in touch with the one thing you can’t stand anymore about this world. Don’t let the complexity of the problem overwhelm you. God is in control and that He wants to use you to bring change to this dying world.

Take Moses, He was chosen by God to rescue the children of Egypt from slavery and lead them to the Promised Land (he didn’t personally usher them into the Promised Land, but his leadership molded a Joshua who successfully crossed them over). Moses was born a Hebrew, but adopted by Pharaoh’s daughter and raised an Egyptian. However, he never forgot who he was. Despite his mistakes God used him in a mighty way!

Some of you are thinking I can’t take action. Yes you can! Where would this world be without people like Harriet Tubman, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Mother Theresa, Gandhi, and Cesar Chavez? Like them, God wants you to use you for a mighty work. Surrender and let Him use you!

I have a passion for helping people complete their earthly assignment. I can’t stand to see a life wasted! What is that thing you can’t stand? In what way would you like to change the world? Please comment below.

With God all things are possible,
Dr. Celeste

Good morning, Dr. Celeste, I have recently been trying to work on my Personal Vision Statement and one of the areas I am learning that I cannot stand is when I see people (saved and unsaved) bound by things that hinder them from reaching their full potential. I find myself not only praying for and with these individuals, but also spending time with them and helping them identify what are the things in their lives that keep them bound or hindered from pursuing their goals. I have learned a lot about what God has called me to do in the earth, through the Surrender Fast and allowing myself to sacrifice pride and other areas that hindered me from helping them and am truly seeing the Lord use me in really amazing ways! Thank you for all you do for the body of Christ! your labor of love is not in vain!

    • You are welcome Tara! I would encourage everyone to do a Personal Vision Statement. It helps with clarifying one’s purpose for being. We all have an assignment; sounds like you are finding yours in the life coaching arena. Many blessings to you!

Using your wording, Dr. Celeste, I “cannot stand it” when I hear of someone challenged with a health challenge that could have been prevented by implementing some healthy lifestyle changes. Therefore, I thank God for the privelege of walking in my purpose of being a natural health registered nurse and health/wellness coach . I am blessed to be able to assist people in achieving their health/wellness goals.

        Yours in health & wellness,
        Gayle

      • Oooh that’s a good one Gayle. That’s why we implemented the “Be in Health” Challenge this year. When we take control of our diets or should I say “surrender our diets” we become partners with God in keeping our temples healthy. Thanks for all you do!

Good Morning Celeste, One thing I can’t stand about the world is how the enemy continually puts things in our lives to discourage, distract, to have us feeling so bad about ourselves and our situation to the point that we throw in the towel and give up on God. I would like to be used as an encourager to help uplift the Kingdom of God. So they can see they are not alone and that they don’t have to give up God because if there frustration but if we press forward the outcome would be great.

    • Hi Tamika, that’s an awesome mission! I look forward to witnessing how God uses you to assist that body of Christ in this way. Expect the great!
