Be Grateful For What Is (The Contentment Edition)

Cycle 5 of Surrender Fast 2013 focused on contentment. I wish I could say that after 6 weeks of study I’ve mastered it. To the contrary, but I am LEARNING and that’s good enough (see Philippians 4:10-11).

As many of you know the first seminar of the Surrender Lifestyle Symposiums in next Saturday. Despite my efforts the numbers aren’t where I want them.

Don’t worry this isn’t a cheap marketing ploy; I tend to live-out-loud and this situation is no different.

My goal for the first session was 150 participants. On last Tuesday when I realized I was only a third of the way there worry started to set in. And with worrying came discouragement, sadness, and negative thinking. However as I was praying the Spirit whispered:

Be grateful for what is.

Wow, I was so busy focusing on what could be that I missed the opportunity to focus on what is.

The numbers weren’t the problem; it was my double-mindedness that was keeping me from contentment.

All along I had been praying, Lord whoever is supposed to come, will. But it was my stipulation of 150 participants that was robbing me of peace. What I was really praying was: Lord I am grateful for all that show up–as long as 150 are present.

You, too, may be double-minded. Does any of this sound familiar? Lord, if you get me into college it doesn’t matter how long it takes—as long as I finish in 4 years. Or Lord, I don’t care if I ever get married—as long as you send my spouse before the age of 40.

My friend, it’s the latter insertion that leads to discontentment. But Let God be; let His plans actualize in your life!

The Word reminds us that His ways and thoughts are not our ways and thoughts. He doesn’t even define success the way we do. The world keeps us caught up with the bottom line: profits/numbers. But God is saying today I AM the bottom line. As long as you are doing my will, you are a success (see Joshua 1:8)!

So I surrender; I am grateful for what is.

I choose God, I choose to be grateful, and I choose to live contented. What about you?

With God all things are possible,
Dr. Celeste!

Dr. Celeste, thank you for the reminder and thank you for always being transparent and honest with us! I remember when my family lost our home it looked like such a defeated time. And definitely didn’t look like the American dream and idea of success as my husband and I lived in someone else’s basement and my children lived in other locations. I remember my oldest son said to me and my husband “look at you two, you’re still together.” That was such an eyeopener; to no longer measure success by the house, the cars, etc. but to measure success by our living out God’s plan in every area of our life and in everything we do! I join with you, I choose God, I choose to be grateful and I choose to be contented. Again THANK YOU!

    • You are welcome Joy! Your testimony is tremendous. Look what God has done because of your willingness to follow His plan. Success is meditating on His word day and night, doing as He instructs. That’s it! The next time I forget that direct me to this blog. LOL.

  4. Lol! I love you!

I have peace in knowing He loves me , He has me and I a determined to “live on the other side” . Not my will but His will be done! I will see you on April 20th with great expectancy, gratefulness and joy. Will call you re:the books this week! Blessings!

    • Hi Lori! I am praying God’s blessing as you continue in this season of fasting. God is removing every hindrance as He moves you to the other side. I look forward to seeing you on the 20th!!! I will be looking out for your call.

Bless the Lord at all times, his praises are still on my lips. God Bless you, Dr. Celeste.
When I think of the goodness of the Lord, the number of people attending may be
more fulfilling and joyous and anointing than 150. Any number lower, is just a beginning
for the double portion God has purposed for you.

    Charlie Richardson.
P.S. And if it overflows, still receive it. I love you.

    • Thanks Charlie, I know that God is going to do a mighty work and I am at peace. His will be done!!! Enjoy your day.
