Swimsuits for India — A Six Month Prayer Challenge

Last year, around this time, I heard a profound message on the importance of praying for others. The preacher told the story of “Bob” a new convert, who decided to pray for Kenya after being challenged by a friend to do so.

After some time Bob was having dinner with some associates and there “just so happened” to be a woman there who was the director of the biggest orphanage in…you guessed it…KENYA!

Bob sparked up a conversation and was invited to visit her country. He witnessed the great needs of orphanage and was moved. After a series of letters, he convinced medical suppliers to send millions of dollars of supplies to the orphanage. The leaders in the country were so impressed Bob was invited back for a celebration. As Bob toured the country, which included a visit to the prison, Bob commented that he thought the officials should free the political prisoners. Months later he received a call from the US government thanking him for playing a huge role in the freeing of the prisoners (something they had been trying to do for years)!

But the story doesn’t end there.

Bob was invited back to Kenya a 3rd time to pray with the President of Kenya as he contemplated his picks for his new cabinet.

Bob, an insurance agent, changed the course of history because he decided to pray for 6 months!

After hearing this story in 2013, I was moved to do the same. I invited my children to join me. They picked their own requests.

Here was our list:

1. An explosion of the Surrender Movement.

2. That Aaliyah (age 7) would finish college and marry a great husband. (Yes she picked this with no help from me.)

3. AJ (age 8) prayed that children would be reunited with there parents.

Glory be to God, we witnessed the manifestation of requests 1 and 3 during the 6 months! Of course we won’t see the manifestation of Aaliyah’s requests for a few years yet, but we believe it is done.

photo (4) Last year, I marked the date in my bible 7/8/13. Two days ago, as I was flipping through my Bible I saw it (see picture to the left). Immediately, I was move to do it again this year.

The kids have decided that for 6-months we are praying for swimsuits and clothes for children in India. Random, right…but maybe not. Can’t wait to see how God will move on this request.

The Bible tells us that some things only come through prayer and fasting.

Tomorrow is 7/8/14. The six-month prayer challenge begins again.

Won’t you join us?

With God all things are possible,
Dr. Celeste

    • Natalie you are always up for a challenge! πŸ™‚ Thanks for joining us. Where two or three are gathered together…okay I hope it’s clear, you will pick something to pray for and do so for 6 months. You aren’t obligated to pray for the same thing we are praying for.

  3. Do you mind if I quote a few of your articles as long as I provide credit and sources back to your site?
