Remember when you couldn’t wait
to show up early and find your place.
Cause you didn’t want to miss a thing.
And your heart was open and ready for change.
Oh, those days.
You were never afraid to sing,
never afraid to lift your hands.
Didn’t care what people would think.
You were on fire, and church was more than a place,
and people were more than faces, and Jesus was more than a name.
Remember the song by Jonathan Butler “Falling IN Love With Jesus?”
Remember the first day you accepted Jesus Christ into your life? NOTHING ELSE MATTERED!
Church was now exciting, People were beautiful, and Jesus was magnificent!
The sun seemed brighter, the grass seemed greener and just like being transformed into a beautiful butterfly life became a world of endless possibilities.
Now, fast forward a bit. You’ve experienced things or you’ve been through things you’ve never thought you’d have gone through.
Life has knocked you around.
Your nemesis (the devil) has tried to destroy you on quite a few occasions.
And it appears that your vision has become a bit blurry.
Church doesn’t seem as bright as it used to.
People look less engaging.
And well, the appeal of Jesus has faded a tad bit.
So I ask, where has your first love gone?
I know for me as I mentioned in an earlier blog, that the issue was faith and excepting that no matter how much faith I had about a certain thing or how much I believed it was going to happen, it not happening had nothing to do with me, but the will of God.
I thought, if I would’ve did it this way or that way.
If I would’ve believed harder.
If I would’ve fasted harder.
If I would’ve prayed harder
If I would’ve…
And still at the end of the day it just wasn’t God’s will.
Do you feel that way?
Well you are certainly not alone.
See, one of the biggest tricks that the enemy tries to feed us is deception.
He tries to make us believe that what we’ve been through is for us alone.
But that most certainly is not the truth.
And, even though you feel that a certain thing should’ve worked out a certain way. God wants to show you a better way.
And he also want to show you your best life now.
Now is not the time to get discouraged or down.
And it’s certainly not the time to distance yourself from the Lord.
But now is the time to fight like never before. Because there is something that the devil is afraid that you and I might find out.
It’s time that our soul be reunited with it’s first love, and that we allow God to set us on fire once again.
