Quick Tip Monday!!!
This is a past blog that I wrote. Thought I’d share again because of it’s importance. Enjoy!
You’re out of the house for the day, at work, running errands, or just enjoying the beautiful creation that God has made. Half way through the day you remember you’ve forgotten something……deodorant! Immediately panic kicks in and that tell-tell tingling sensation under the arms and perspiration begins.
BUT DON’T PANIC, SWEAT IS NECESSARY!
Sweat is just the body’s way of regulating its temperature. Thankfully, sweat itself is odorless, it’s the bacteria under the arm and in other places where hair is present that causes the body odor.
Armed with this knowledge maybe you’ll think twice before picking up a bottle of antiperspirant deodorant.
BOTTOM LINE: antiperspirants are not good for your health. Antiperspirants contain aluminum. Aluminum is a chemical in deodorants that prevents sweating by clogging sweat ducts and stopping the flow of sweat from reaching your skins surface. If sweat is not released then build up will cause toxins to develop in the body.
There’s still debate over whether aluminum causes breast cancer in women and men due to the substances in aluminum which results in estrogen buildup. However, some studies have determined that it’s not the aluminum but the toxic buildup itself that causes the increased estrogen in the body.
Aluminum has also been linked to Alzheimer’s, Lou Gehrig’s disease, Osteomalacia (a softening of the bones due to a lack of vitamin D), anemia, glucose intolerance, and Parkinson’s disease; but it hasn’t been confirmed whether or not the aluminum that reaches the brain is absorbed through the use of antiperspirants.
With all of the potential health risks, I would think it’s time to surrender aluminum antiperspirant for an aluminum free deodorant or just be Au natural like Dr. Celeste. Again, she and her son AJ have been deodorant free since July 12th with no underarm odor. Yayyy!
But for those of us who are not yet that adventurous, here’s a list by Alexandra Zissu of her Top 9 Best Natural Deodorants.
