Drawing Closer To God

Good News Thursday!!!

To listen to this weeks song for meditation, Click on Have Your Way Casey J feat Pastor Jason Nelson

I posted this blog over a year ago, but today it is ringing true for me and I thought someone else might need to let go of there own way of doing things and try adopting God’s way of doing it.

That saying about let go and let God has never been truer. Enjoy!

Jesus said to Martha “You are worried and upset.” There is only one thing to be concerned about and Mary has discovered it, and it will not be taken away from her. (Luke 10:38-42 NLT)

Drawing closer to God is the single most important thing we could ever do for ourselves. And the enemy knows it. That’s why you may notice when you decide to draw closer to the Creator, distractions from any and everywhere imaginable will come.

It can get so bad that you may feel that you were doing better before you started to draw closer.

But that’s the trap that the enemy wants you to fall into.

He wants you to give up because boy if you reach the finish line………..God WINS and he LOSES!!!

Cycle 5 Starts Today–Where in the World are the Surrender Fasters?

where are you

Welcome to Cycle 5 of Surrender Fast 2013! Today marks the first day of our 40 days of surrender.

I am excited for what God is doing now and will do for you in the days to come. Expect Him everyday: look for Him around every corner, hear Him speak out of the mouth of babes and strangers,  believe that He wants to do something new in you!

Our theme this cycle is: “Mastering the Art of Contentment.” I am determined in the next six weeks to LEARN to be content. Yes, contentment is a process and something that you learn over time.

Paul spoke about this in Philippians 4:11. He wrote, “Not that I speak in regard to need, for I have learned in whatever state I am, to be content.” How can he be content in every circumstance? The secret is Christ. For we can do all things through Christ who strengthens us. Continue reading

Testimonies from Week 2 (Cycle 4) of Surrender Fast 2013

Thanks to all who have submitted testimonies. They are powerful! If you have a praise report please send it to

I had carried the pain of physical, mental, emotional, verbal, and spiritual abuse for years, and I had been praying and talking with God a long time asking him to show me who I am.  Within the past five years, God has been answering my prayers, revealing pieces at a time.  I had been reading God’s Word everyday since January 1st, the day after the Surrender Prayer, and each day I felt more of God’s presence inside be.  I knew a breakthrough was coming. The Surrender Fast ministry and its prayers, scripture, and encouraging words has helped me become free from the pain of my past–today.  Today is my breakthrough.  I have been set free!  I thank God for loving me, and showing me how to love myself!  Thank you Dr. Celeste and your team.  The journey has begun…

Good evening as I recap from the week I had to share this. First let me say this is my second time fasting with my new family, the Surrender Family and I thank God for each one of you and I pray God’s blessings over you. I’m a newly-wed; 12/31/2011 we were married. Yes we’ve been married one year. I joined for the first time in Sept during Cycle 3 and of course with this being my second marriage I want it to be “perfect” so God said You need to be submissive to your husband. Surrender to submit.I felt my spirit brace for the storm when I heard the prayer (Morning Prayer Call, Day 4) and STORMY WEATHER CAME AS PROPHESIED. On Saturday 1/5 God said, you had to go through your argument today so that you can see and face and admit to and stand up to the absolute fact that you are absolutely insecure down to your core.  I sulked all day, I prayed and I found the answer. I’m the problem; my thinking from old wounds and my being insecure. In conclusion, for Cycle 4 the theme for me “enough is enough” of my being insecure. So again Dr Celeste you have let God use you in a mighty powerful way and though I’ve  never met you I love you and thank God you are in my life.

Surrender Fast 2013 – Are you in?!

Most of us want to know God’s plan for our lives, but we’re not always sure how to find it.

Do you know that God can dream a bigger dream than you? For years I thought I had it all together; my life was planned the way I wanted it. But when I was diagnosed with cancer in 2007 the journey back to health allowed me to re-evaluate my plans. In fact, I learned that my plan was nearly the polar-opposite of what God had in mind. Now I am living His bigger dream; the one he had planned for me from the foundations of the earth.  And it feels great!

What about you?

Are you living God’s bigger dream? If you find yourself frustrated and discouraged all the time, I would guess you are not. Continue reading

Out of Order: Lessons from a Neglectful Wife

Okay I’m being dramatic, but I must admit, I’ve been guilty of not putting Andel first.

Of course during our engagement it was all about him. And maybe even the first couple years of marriage—not sure—you would have to ask him. But then came kids, work and ministry obligations and he began to play second fiddle.

We have a good marriage so suffice it to say I didn’t do any of this intentionally; it just sort of happen.

It’s funny how those who are supposed to mean the most to us are quickly relegated to the “I’ll get to you when I get a chance” category when life becomes all about us.

I wasn’t aware of the severity of my behavior until a recent disagreement with Andel that got me to thinking. We were visiting friends in North Carolina. The host cooked breakfast. I feed the kids then ran off to the Post Office. When I returned all the food was eaten and Andel – fast asleep – had missed out. Continue reading

Week 5: The God of the Impossible

Welcome to Day 29! Today’s devotional, The God of the Impossible, was one of my favorite to write. One day prior to my writing that blog, God did the seemingly impossible; He saved my youngest brother. (Stephen will join us this Friday on the Weekly Wrap-up Call to share with us a snippet of his experiences as a new creation.) What an exciting day that was, not only for me, but my entire family.

Obviously, I don’t need to recap the story; you have it there in black and white. But what I do want to stress is that God is not through, He wants to bless you equally as much.

What requests do you have before Him? Perhaps they’re related to your business, family, health, and/or ministry efforts. Whatever the case, do you believe that they will come to pass? I hope by now your answer is YES because it is faith that moves God.

Hebrews 11:6 reads, “But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.” Therefore, if you’re going to experience His great and mighty hand in your circumstances, you must believe Him at His word. So continue to seek Him, to grow closer to Him, and to believe that He can do what seems humanly impossible.

That’s what Jabez did. And like Jabez, you have been seeking God for the last 29 days, asking Him to bless you INDEED and to enlarge your territory (I Chr. 4:10). Thankfully, God doesn’t ignore sincere prayers that are made with the proper motivation. Hannah is a witness to this truth (I Samuel 1:8-18) as is Peter, whose friends earnestly prayed until he was supernaturally freed from a Roman jail (see Acts 12)! And if God—who does not value one person over another—did that for them, what might He do for you? The sky isn’t even the limit, because the possibilities are limitless with God.

On that note, this week we will continue our study of the Jabez prayer with the theme New Horizons with God. We will focus on the last portion of the prayer which reads, “So God granted Him what he requested.” You won’t want to miss this special time with our Father.

Join us M-Th, 7:00-7:15am (EST) at 712-775-7200, access code: 438001.

I would love to hear from you. If you have a testimony of how God has blessed you on this fast please email me at Or simple respond below.

With God all things are possible,
Dr. Celeste

Week 4: Dust off Your Dreams

Welcome to Day 22! We are more than half-way there. I pray that your experience thus far has been as rich and full as mine.

Today’s devotional Dust off Your Dreams, reminds us that God has not forgotten; that He still plans to prosper us in every area of our lives. For that reason we are to “dream big, dream bold and always remember that He does not forget” His promises.

What are your dreams for your life? A career, marriage, education, and/or more impact for the kingdom? Then pursue those dreams like never before in 2012. As you do so remember these two important points:

  1. God wants to bless you INDEED. All He needs from you is a devoted heart and faith that believes He can do anything.  God has repeatedly reminded us during the course of this fast to let Him do a new thing, to ask for what we need according to His will and He will do it, and to BELIEVE that He will bless us INDEED. Each day we have prayed the Jabez prayer (I Chronicles 4:10) and each day He hears and is anxious to work on our behalf. 2 Chronicles 16:9a reminds us ”For the eyes of the LORD run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to show Himself strong on behalf of those whose heart is loyal to Him.” A surrender heart is a loyal heart; therefore expect God to bless you and to grant you good success in your business.
  2. When you take care of God’s business He takes care of yours. The scripture tells us, “But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.” And that’s just what you’ve been doing during the course of this fast—seeking God. Now watch Him show up in your situation and work mightily. Recently God has been telling me to “rest.” For me rest meant that I was to allow Him to market The 40-Day Surrender Fast the way He wished. In the meantime I was to take care of my home and some other missions-related activities. And because of my obedience I have seen God’s hand in the life of this book. He has opened doors for me that I never expected to be opened. Case in point, I am on this amazing experience with you! What a mighty and faithful God we serve.

There’s an excitement in my spirit that’s growing with each passing day. And just in case you haven’t noticed, we’re in the middle of a movement from God. So stay alert and present for the next 18 days. As He told the children of Israel in the book of Joshua, “Prepare provisions for yourselves, for within three days you will cross over this Jordan, to go in to possess the land which the LORD your God is giving you to possess” (Joshua 1:11, NKJV).

In faith, possess your new land, your new season, and your new life. Dust off those dreams, put them before God, and let Him prosper you in every area of your life.

Remember to join us for morning prayer. This week we are focusing on the 4th part of the Jabez prayer: “and that You would keep me from evil, that I may not cause pain!” Please send your prayer request to

I would love to hear from you. If you have a testimony of how God has blessed you on this fast please email me at
